Certification
The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists provides certification and registration for qualified individuals (usually technologists) in the areas of medical imaging, interventional procedures and radiation therapy. To earn your Breast Sonography ARRT certification and registration, they will require you to have a prior credentials for Radiology and Mammography. You can earn these with ARRT’s post-primary pathway or with another organization.

The American Registry for Diagnostic Medial Sonography, is geared toward sonographers on the other hand, and administers exams and awards credentials in different areas of ultrasound. Their RDMS certification has several specialty examinations, one of which is a Breast (BR) certification.
To earn RDMS credentials with a BR specialty, you need to pass their Sonography Principles & Instrumentation (SPI) and the BR exam within 5 years. However, the 5-year rule does not apply if you have already earned a previous credential and are only seeking an additional specialty certification. Learn more about their 5-year rule here. The ARDMS also offers a paid practice test composed of 30 sample questions and should take about 30 minutes to complete.
