Asymmetric Gynecomastia

IMAGING FINDINGS: ​​

Mammographic views demonstrate a normal male tissue pattern in the right breast and moderate to marked gynecomastia in the left breast.

WHY IT MATTERS:

1. Gynecomastia can be symmetric or asymmetric and usually presents as a palpable, painful lump.
2. The main differential diagnosis for gynecomastia is male breast cancer.  Ensure that there are not any associated suspicious findings such as skin thickening, nipple retraction, nipple discharge or axillary lymphadenopathy.
3. Some males develop gynecomastia as they age.
