Implantable Cardiac Device Within the Breast

IMAGING FINDINGS: ​

Standard Craniocaudal (CC) and Mediolateral Oblique (MLO) views of the left breast show a breast composed almost entirely of fat. There is an implanted cardiac device (loop recorder) present within the medial left breast.
 
WHY IT MATTERS:

1. Implantable devices are very common and include loop recorders (as shown in this case), pacemakers, cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), and brain or spine stimulators.
2. The implanted devices can potentially obscure subtle calcifications and can cause artifact on tomosynthesis exams.
