Shrinking Breast

IMAGING FINDINGS: ​

Bilateral CC and MLO views demonstrate dramatic asymmetry in the size of the breasts. The left breast is significantly smaller than the right breast. This is a change compared to prior exams. 
 
WHY IT MATTERS:

1. Invasive lobular carcinoma can present as a “shrinking breast.”  There is progressive decrease in size of one breast due to a large, infiltrative malignancy.
2. A “shrinking breast” is a rare presentation of invasive lobular carcinoma, but presents as a diagnostic challenge due to the absence of a specific mass or calcifications. This highlights the importance of prior studies as well.
