Multiple Round Masses on Mammography

IMAGING FINDINGS: ​

​Bilateral MLO views demonstrate multiple round masses in both breasts. Many of the masses are calcified.

WHY IT MATTERS:

1. Multiple round masses on mammography is defined as greater than 3 masses (with at least 1 in each breast).  
2. If all the masses have similar benign features (circumscribed margins, etc) and no suspicious features (spiculated margins, etc), then a BI-RADS 2 assessment can be given. There is no need to perform a diagnostic evaluation, even if these masses are seen on a screening exam.
