Seatbelt Injury on Breast Ultrasound

IMAGING FINDINGS: ​

​Sonographic images demonstrate multiple superficial cysts scattered throughout the superior right breast, consistent with oil cysts.

WHY IT MATTERS:

1. Trauma to the breast often leads to development of fat necrosis and benign oil cysts.
2. Motor vehicle accidents with subsequent trauma to the chest wall, lead to a classic appearance on breast imaging with multiple oil cysts in a band along the superior and lateral breast (where the seatbelt resided).
